Dressmaking: Advanced - Garment construction & detail techniques

This course is designed to follow on from the Improvers Garment Construction course or for people who have some experience of dressmaking skills and are confident with the use of a sewing machine.

The course will work one or more garments in the medium range of difficulty in fabric of the course participants choice, woven or jersey fabric with an appropriate pattern.

The garment should include one or more features such as zips, pocket detailing, form fitting seaming, pleating, buttonholes, collar and cuffs etc.

The course will focus on getting a pattern to fit well and more complex garment details.

Most sessions will start with a demonstration of an element of garment construction and course participants will then spend some time making this sample so they have it for later reference. The samples will relate mostly to the garments being constructed by the students. This will be followed by time for the students to make their own garments.

Students are encouraged to learn from the methods used in what other course participants are making.

Please bring a pattern to the first session with enough fabric to make it.

Participants need to bring their own sewing machine and equipment with them.

Students are encourage to do some work on their garments at home so there is more opportunity to learn new skills.
