  • Introduction to Colour with Cora Mullenger

This course follows on from ‘Introduction to Drawing’ but would suit anyone wanting to explore basic techniques in using colour in their artwork. We will look at recognising shapes, ‘measure and compare’ and perspective rules when recording what we see on to paper. We will explore a variety of different mediums as we further develop our understanding of tone, light and dark and explore new techniques.

Week 1: Colour wheel and colour mixing – acrylics

Week 2: Pastel (soft and oil pastel techniques) – still life subjects

Week 3: Pastel (soft and oil pastel techniques) – animals

Week 4: Watercolour – landscape and skies, exploring the process and tricks of the trade!

Week 5: Watercolour – further experimentation, floral subjects

Week 6: Acrylics – dabbling with ‘Impressionism’

Week 7: Mixed media – abstract approaches

Week 8: Revisiting some materials, collage, and mixed media

Allowing ourselves to experiment and explore colour in a fun and relaxed way can not only advance our understanding of materials but enable us to discover new and exciting ways to be creative.

You will need: An A3 sketch pad (most basic art materials are included, but an additional small fee may be charged for specialist papers and/or canvas)
