Are you unsure whether BSL is for you? Would you like to come along and ‘have a go’? Have you got questions about the language but not had the opportunity to ask them? Perhaps you have a friend or relative with whom you would like to converse?
Come along to this taster and leave knowing that you can confidently introduce yourself and ask someone their name in Sign Language.
BSL is not a just a mode of communication – it is an official language that is fully expressive and can impart the smallest nuance in it’s fullest meaning. The use of motion, placement, handshapes and body language along with facial expression can impart a message in not only full detail but also with all the underlying implicit shades of meaning and emotion. Come along to this introductory taster and leave inspired.
About the Tutor
I studied at the Sheffield Hallam University in IT and have since completed various professional qualifications in order to teach BSL. I have a well established grounding in the culture, social aspects and language being profoundly Deaf from birth. I currently work within a local council in a full time role and have been teaching BSL in various settings for over 15 years at different levels. I am experienced at teaching people from all backgrounds and with little or no knowledge of deafness or sign language. I have two kids of my own and enjoy travelling in order to participate in Deaf gatherings and events nationally.
