Sewing your own clothes is a thoroughly rewarding, enjoyable and addictive hobby. On this eight week course, you will learn how to get the best out of your sewing machine and learn dressmaking skills and techniques in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
During the course, you will learn how to:
* Understand and read a pattern.
* Take measurements to get the best fit.
* Adapt a pattern so that it fits.
* Choose the right fabric for different projects.
* Prepare cloth, cut a pattern and make dressmaking marks.
* Make sample seams, zips, hems, buttonholes, darts and pleats.
* Add inseam pockets to a garment.
You will also get to make at least one item with full support and guidance during the course.
For the dressmaking course you will need to bring:
* a sewing machine
* thread
* tape measure
* fabric and paper scissors
* pins or pattern weights
* tailors chalk or dressmaking pens
* practice zips and buttons when we cover this aspect of the course.
For your sewn project you will also need fabric, a pattern and notions as appropriate, these won’t be required at the start of the course.

Covid guidelines:
We plan to hold most of these in venues which will be operating their own Covid policies around using the space and updates will be available near to the start date of courses.
In the event of a local lockdown, measures are in place to commute courses to online platforms, but our intention is to deliver classes in bubbles and the course administrator at The Public House, Andrew McDonnell, will be responsible for contacting student groups and the venue if anyone, including the tutor, displays any symptoms in line with government guidelines.
It is the responsibility of any course attendee to inform Andrew of these symptoms as soon as possible via telephone 07555 447826 and email admin@thepublichousenorwich.co.uk
